The extraction technique developed by Biosfered allows to obtain an extract with a high percentage of furanodienes in gas- chromatographic analyses. The use of an internal standard allows the precise quantification of furanodienes that are expressed on the weight of the finished product (with concentrations > 40 g/Kg).

Studies conducted on myrrh furanodienes demonstrated that furaneudesma-1 ,3-diene and curzerene have analgesic activity due to their interaction with opioid receptors of the central nervous system.

Furanodienes such as the furanodiene-6-one and metoxyfuranoguaia-9-ene-8-one, show local-anesthetic properties due to the selective and reversible block of sodium channels.

Furanodiene-6-one and metossifuranoguaia-9-ene-8-one, at concentrations ranging from 0.18 to 2.8 mg / ml, have activity towards pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.

The myrrh extract inhibits the production of IL-6 and IL-8 in cells of human gingival fibroblasts; block proteins involved in the inflammatory process such as Cox; inhibits the formation of NO, ROS, TNF-α, PGE2, NF-kB and MAPK. Clinical studies indicate that the extract of myrrh induces significant improvements of osteoarthritis.
